Benefits

Intended use

Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii. Benign or asymptomatic in most cases, it presents a serious risk for pregnant seronegative women and subjects with a weakened immune system. Different antibodies corresponding to the variety of antigens involved in toxoplasma infections are developed during the immune response. The relative proportion of these various antibodies in serum may differ from one subject to another, and change in time for the same patient. ELITech developed the ELITex Toxo, a slide agglutination test, for the rapid detection of serum antibodies (IgG and IgM) present in patients suffering from toxoplasmosis. It is rapid, easy-to-use and easy-to-read with results available within 6 minutes.

Principle

ELITex Toxo is based on the agglutination principle of polystyrene particles coated with a toxoplasma antigen, which allows the detection of IgG and IgM antibodies. Serum antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii are revealed by an agglutination of latex particles, visible to the naked eye. In the absence of specific antibodies, there is no agglutination. ELITex Toxo enables a rapid screening of sera which will then be tested by the usual quantitative methods (Dye-test, Indirect Haemagglutination, Immunofluorescence, Direct Agglutination, Enzyme-Immuno-Assays…). Each kit allows 120 tests to be carried out. Results are obtained within 6 minutes.

Easy-to-read and easy-to-interpret results

Result Interpretation
Positive = Agglutination PRESENCE OF ANTI-TOXOPLASMA ANTIBODIES indicating either a past infection, or an evolutive toxoplasmosis
Negative = Absence of agglutination ABSENCE OF ANTI-TOXOPLASMA ANTIBODIESand probably absence of immunity
